Gambia’s main serving airport is Banjul International Airport, so flights to Banjul have a short transfer distance to the resort hotels. The majority of holidaymakers opt to take charter flights to Banjul as they are the most cost effective and can be flown from most major airports in the UK. The only way to get around Banjul is via taxi or on foot as buses are quite infrequent. With Banjul being a very cheap destination, taxis are very reasonable so you don’t need to worry about breaking the bank. Search here at travel.co.uk and find an array of cheap holidays to Banjul today.
Large and extensive and filled with tourists and locals alike, the popular flea market is a must visit when taking Banjul holidays. The goods sold here are mainly fruit and vegetables, household goods and clothing. The friendly locals serving the market here are extremely polite and allow you to browse the stalls without any hassle as they get on with their daily business. Most people walking around the marketplace are locals, many of whom come here to buy their everyday goods rather than using the local shops. This in itself makes the experience a lot more authentic. The beautiful coastline of Banjul also offers a great opportunity to relax on the beach and soak up the hot Gambian sun.
You will not struggle to find a fantastic place to eat out in Banjul as there is such a diverse range of eateries on offer. You will find plenty of western food available in one of the many hotels, and an array of traditional Gambian delicacies along the main town. A speciality here is Benachin, a mix of spiced meat and rice with tomato, which is said to be delicious!
