Flights to Corsica are available through top UK tour operators Mytravel and Thomson. There are a number of airports in Corsica but most charter flights from the UK fly into Bastia Airport in the northeast of the island. One alternative airport is Figari airport in the south, which receives flights from Manchester with Thomson. On some Corsica holidays you can manage perfectly well without car hire, but if you decide to stay in a more exclusive villa for instance, you may struggle to find public transport. A resort such as Calvi is the most convenient for transport as there is a port in the town, the airport is only 7km away and there are plenty of taxis to get you around town.
Sprawling out on the beaches is a perfectly acceptable way to enjoy holidays in Corsica, but on an island that offers so much, it would be a shame to miss out on some of Corsica’s other appealing aspects. Known as the ‘Isle of Beauty’, Corsica is renowned for its fantastic scenery and exploring the island either by car, on a bicycle or even on foot will give you a great opportunity to see some of this beautiful island. The towns and villages of Corsica each have their own fascinating history and there are countless places of historical interest to visit, including magnificent old churches and cathedrals and ruins dating back to Roman times.
Dining out on holidays in Corsica is quite an experience, as mealtimes are a very important part of everyday life in Corsica. There are a number of Mediterranean influences in Corsican cooking, but the island has some quite distinct dishes of its own. There are lots of stews and hearty meat dishes featuring game birds and even wild boar, and much of the cooking uses fresh seasonal ingredients. In coastal areas there is more of an appetite for fresh fish. Whatever your tastes, most Corsica holiday resorts will have a wide range of restaurants offering a variety of local and international menus.
