Decorated with cobbled streets and unspoilt countryside, Croatia is a hidden gem. Priding itself on its stunning coastline, alluring fishing villages and secluded beaches, the popularity of Croatia holidays is on the rise. A haven for the outdoor enthusiast with mountain biking, hiking and even river rafting on your doorstep, there’s not enough hours in the day to try all that’s on offer even during long stay holidays. Croatia is situated in Central Europe, unbeknown to many holidaymakers, it has one of the sunniest coastlines in Europe and boasts 2100 hours of sunshine annually, which means a holiday in Croatia may surpass your expectations.
Croatia is a mere two and a half hour flight from the UK and has a total of four airports to fly into and with there being an abundance of resorts to visit here, all but three airports have charter flights arriving into them. Unfortunately with Croatia not being part of the EU as yet, flights don’t come cheap so finding cheap holidays in Croatia can prove to be difficult. On arrival in Croatia the airports have many shuttle buses on offer to ferry passengers to their required destination and taxis are plentiful. Depending on how you feel about driving on the left hand side of the road, a car hire company named ‘Affordable Car Rental Croatia’ is based at all four airports and gives you the chance to discover all of Croatia’s admirable countryside.
Holidays to Croatia offer a host of activities, whether you are travelling to bask in its glorious sunshine or explore the mountainous surroundings, wherever you go you will have the best of both worlds on your holiday. Croatia has bountiful resorts, Dubrovnik being a favourite. An ancient town perfected in the 13th century, it still stands almost identical to this present day. Home to the Dubrovnik summer festival the streets become filled with music and Croatian locals in the summer period and is said to not be missed. If it’s more of a party atmosphere you had in mind, the resort of Rijeka will be just up your street, known as the town that never sleeps; bars line the streets overflowing with holidaymakers in search of a good night. Charlie’s Bar is a favourite for the young locals here, it’s said to have an English feel and is open day and night.
The Croatian people’s diets consist of a profound amount of meat. Food is inexpensive and the choice on the menu is plentiful. On the coastal region of Croatia, holiday food, as you may refer it to, is very much present here, with the majority of restaurants serving a truly international menu. As holidaymakers branch in to main resorts such as Pula and Rijeka the menus become more expansive. Scampi and Calamari are extremely popular here and considered a Croatian speciality along with ‘Janjetina’, which is lamb roasting on a spit, this tends to be seen on the outside of restaurants so both locals and tourists know where they can sample this delicacy. A popular establishment in Croatia doing this is situated in the resort of ‘Split’ and is named ‘Janjetina’ this restaurant is supposed to be one of the best places in town for spit roast lamb.
