The nearest Airport to Dalyan is Dalaman Airport, which is 25 minutes from Dalyan. Flights to Dalyan tend to be extremely cheap with many Turkey specialists offering fantastic deals. You can fly to Dalyan from virtually all airports in the UK and the flight time is approximately 4 hours. Getting around Dalyan is best done via dolmus, a bus that will stop anywhere along the road and pick you up and take you to any given destination around Turkey. Private taxis are also available with prices fairly inexpensive.
Holidays to Dalyan can be spent lazing on the beach or taking in some amazing sites. Many holidaymakers who venture here spend at least one day of their holiday visiting the ancient city of Caunos. Only a short walk from Dalyan, this ancient settlement is believed to date from 3000BC when Caunos was a major port. The striking Lycian rock tombs with their facades curved into the form of temples were the last resting place of the kings of Caunos and can been seen up close on the path to the city. Recent renovations now enable you to view the ruins in all their former glory causing this fascinating site to become an even bigger tourist attraction. Visit early in the morning to see an abundance of wildlife, including chameleons, tortoises, snakes, lizards and turtles.
The tastes of Dalyan are a delicious blend of Turkish, Arabic, Persian and Greek cuisine and the diet is very similar to that of the Mediterranean, which is said to be one of the healthiest in the world. Meals include lots of fresh fish, meat, vegetables and fruit. For those with a sweet tooth, you will need to wait until the end of the meal when you get to feast on very sweet pastries. Turkish Delights go perfectly with a tiny cup of strong Turkish coffee during meals. As well as traditional foods, on holidays in Dalyan you’ll also find the usual fast food outlets and an array of eateries serving the famous donar kebab.
