Holidays in Halkidiki are a great way to discover Greece. Fabulous beaches blessed with white sands and blue waters backed with mountains and forests, an ideal location for a fantastic break in the hot Greek sunshine. Halkidiki is a peninsular set in northern Greece, it’s the land that resembles three finger like prongs. The streets are pretty with traditional Greek houses and offer luxury hotels and apartments with fantastic amenities, there is something to suit everyone. Holidays to Halkidiki offer many beaches, Kassandra is the most developed. Halkidiki holidays have great facilities and a good nightlife, not as lively as some resorts in Greece but perfect for a lively family package holiday to Halkidiki.
Halkidiki holiday flights fly into Salonica airport which is around about 1hour 15minutes transfer time. Flights to Halkidiki have a flying time of approximately 4hours and operate direct from most airports in the UK. With many low-cost airlines flying over to Greece there is a great opportunity to find a cheap holiday or last minute deal to Halikidiki. Once in the resort it’s a good idea to explore by hiring a car or even hire a moped to get around.
Holidays to Halkidiki offer a wide range of activities and day trips out, each peninsular offers different sights to see and places to visit not to mention all of their beautiful beaches and fantastic water sports. Kassandra is by far the busiest and holds some wonderful historical sites to visit, Afitos to see ruins, springs and superb museums and churches. The nightlife on Kassandra is great with lively bars and restaurants and nearly every village in Halkidiki has some form of nightlife. On Sithonia visit Porto Carras for its wineries and see the remains of Toroni castle. The Mt Athos peninsular is beautiful but is still under monastic control, preventing any females to visit, only a handful of males are allowed to go and view the magnificent monasteries so day trips have to be booked in advance. Other great day trips include the vineyards in central Halkidiki, a boat trip to the island of Kelyfos is worth a visit to look around the ancient ruins or for some exciting fun head to Waterland in Thessaloniki with its 150 acres of wave pools ,slides and gardens.
Halkidiki holidays have many pleasures; one of the best is the locally produced wine. There are at least five wineries in Macedonia producing both red and white fine wine which is delicious to drink. For those who want to get into the true Greek spirit brace yourself and try the local raki, a 45% proof distilled spirit. The food in Halkidiki is lovely it includes delicacies such as freshly caught grilled fish, locally produced meat served with typical Greek dishes such as rice pilaf, souvlaki which is marinated cubes of meat on a skewer with vegetables and a crisp fresh Greek salad with olive oil, olives and feta.
