On the northern side of Kerkova island is the partly submerged ruins of an ancient town that was destroyed by earthquake in the 2nd century. Although the beaches are quite pebbly, they still give you the chance to soak up the sun in the hot Mediterranean climate. If you’re feeling energetic there are some lovely walking trails among the verdant hillsides where honey and almonds are produced, and you can enjoy some magnificent views of the town and harbour below. The mountainous terrain inland also presents the opportunity to try river rafting and climbing. There are numerous places of historical interest around Kas, and the town even has its own Roman amphitheatre.
