Holidays and flights to Larnaca are very popular with British tourists, Larnaca airport is the main international airport in Cyprus along with Paphos. Larnaca flights have a flying time of approximately 4 hours 30 minutes from the UK. With flights actually going into Larnaca visitors holidaying here only have a short transfer of around 15 minutes, this is perfect for those travelling with small children. The best way to go out exploring in Larnaca is to hire a car and go see the beautiful island of Cyprus at your own pace. If you just want to stay within Larnaca itself exploring on foot will be fine.
Holidays to Larnaca have some fantastic historical sites, the town is the oldest in Cyprus featuring mosques and monasteries, there is evidence dating back nearly 6,000 years. There are museums galore housing the islands history, a great one to visit for the whole family is the museum of palaeontology where you can learn about fossils on a fascinating day out. You can go shopping in the main shopping centre of Zinonos Kitios, pick up locally produced goods or travel to nearby villages, which are great to explore. Lefkara is only around 25 miles away and is great for shopping and buying locally made lace. If you are looking to visit the oldest monastery in Cyprus on your travels be aware that only the males are allowed to enter. Larnaca holidays offer Cypriot cuisine that has a lot of similarities with that of other eastern Mediterranean destinations such as Greece and Turkey. Fish dishes include octopus in red wine, sea bass or red mullet. Popular meat dishes include souvlaki and sheftalia, a traditional Cypriot sausage. There are also a variety of sweet snacks to sample, such as sweet pastries. Cyprus' strong wine-making tradition stretches back hundreds of years and you might sample as amber-coloured dessert wine called Commandaria, made in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, the world’s oldest named wine still in production.
