Paxos holidays biggest attraction is perhaps more about what the island doesn’t have than what it does. With extraordinary natural beauty and an ‘off-the-beaten-track’ feel, holidays in Paxos are an excellent choice for a bit of peace and quiet in a hot Greek climate. With just three resorts, the little island of Paxos is well worth exploring no matter where you choose to stay, and with a good standard of apartments, guesthouses and hotels, Paxos has everything you need for a relaxing beach holiday. Combining warm hospitality, great food and some stunning scenery, a Paxos holiday is a great choice for couples with a love of all things Greek to simply get away from it all and enjoy a Greek island that has resisted much of the tourist orientated development that has gone on elsewhere. As Greek as feta cheese and olives, holidays to Paxos offer a true taste of traditional Ionian island life.

Paxos holidays are perhaps not the most accessible of the Greek options. As one of the smaller Ionian Islands Paxos does not have its own airport and therefore in order to enjoy the tranquillity of Paxos holidays, you will need to get flights to Corfu, the nearest neighbour, and then take a ferry journey from the port at Lefkimi to the charming traditional harbour of Gaios in Paxos. At just 12km by 4km, the island is small enough that getting around is never too much of a problem, with taxis offering an easy option, the local bus service joining up the resorts and car hire available also. You can even hire a small motor boat to explore the island’s coastline and discover some of the more secluded coves and small villages.
Paxos holidays can be the perfect remedy to the fast pace of modern life, despite its diminutive size, with a wonderful atmosphere and a feeling of seclusion and exclusivity. The three resorts of Gaios, Lakka and Loggos all have their own special features, but there is no reason why you can’t enjoy all of them at different points on your holiday. Paxos has a number of good beaches, including the smooth pebble beach at the western end of Lakka’s crescent-shaped bay. There is a dive school located within the bay and opportunities to try other water sports such as wind surfing. The main harbour town of Gaios gives holidays to Paxos a surprisingly cosmopolitan feel thanks to the frequent day-trippers that venture here from neighbouring islands such as Corfu. There are a number bars and restaurants in which to sample some of the local refreshments as well a good selection of shops where you can pick up some decent quality souvenirs including pottery and jewellery. There are also a few interesting sights to add a cultural aspect to your Paxos holiday, including the monastery of Panagia and the Castle of St Nicholas in the Gaios harbour area. Considered the prettiest of the island’s three harbours, the tiny Loggos is a picture postcard Greek village with narrow streets leading to small marketplaces. The handful of bars and restaurants are a good place to stop off for quick bite.
Holidays in Paxos offer some interesting little eateries in the three main resort towns and you can enjoy some excellent freshly caught seafood in the harbour restaurants. Some of the best eating experiences on Paxos holidays can be found in the traditional Greek tavernas, which are often family-run establishments where you can enjoy delicious barbeque grilled meats and fish at superb value. Starters are often Greek salad featuring feta cheese, cracked black pepper and a good drizzle of olive oil. A great snack option is the souvlaki, consisting of grilled meat and vegetables, which can become a ‘gyros’ when it is wrapped up in a pitta bread.
