The beautiful clear seas entice divers to swim down and marvel at the exotic marine life that surrounds you as you go. In addition to Runaway Bay there is many more superb diving spots close by. Head to Jacks Hall where you will find a 40-foot dive with an array of spectacular corals, or for the more confident diver head to Devil’s Reef, a sloping ridge east of Ocho Rios. A favourite for divers is almost definitely ‘top of the Mountain’, a 60-foot dive near Dunn’s River Falls that is filled with a host of coral heads. Runaway Bay’s cuisine is very much centred on the spicy Caribbean flavours. Fish dishes are very popular, with the local catch making up a variety of interesting items on the menu. The national dish in Jamaica is named ‘Ackee,’ a delicious fruit mixed with saltfish. Runaway Bay offers a small selection of restaurants that serve traditional Jamaican cuisine, but to find more traditional British meals you may be better visiting one of the neighbouring resorts.
