Getting there and getting around

Sardinia flights take approximately 2 hours 30 minutes from the UK. Flights to Sardinia are operated mainly by charter and low-cost airlines creating great cheap holidays to Sardinia. Public transport in Sardinia can be relatively slow, so the recommended transport would be by rail, as there are great connections and this gives you the opportunity to take in some of the beautiful views and breathtaking scenery that Sardinia has to offer.

Things to do

The beautiful island of Sardinia has a great deal to offer. The beaches are fantastic, golden sands, fabulous clear sea and warm waters mean that a day at the beach should definitely be on your list of things to do. The beaches of Baia de Sardinia and Cannigione are fabulous and are popular places to soak up the sun. Sardinia’s history and culture is interesting and worth exploring. Visit Nora, an archaeological site with Roman and Carthaginian remains, see the mysterious prehistoric cone shaped buildings, there are over 700 hundred scattered over the island. Cagliari is a lovely place to visit with the old port, picturesque historical remains and magnificent cathedral you will want to visit again. Last minute holidays to Sardinia can really re-invigorate you, especially if you get a bargain. A relaxing holiday in Sardinia is an opportunity to visit the pretty harbor town of Alghero, which is truly a sight to behold. The night life in Sardinia is low-key and tends to centre around romantic meals and a bottle of wine, a very intimate evening rather than rowdy night clubs, but if you do want something a little upbeat visit Costa Esmeralda for up market restaurants and a livelier nightlife.

Food and drink

Holidays in Sardinia open up some superb dining opportunities with people who are passionate about their food and drink. The cuisine is simply delicious with Phoenician, Spanish and Italian influences the food is very rustic and hearty. Some of the specialities might include cooked meats on a spit roast and succulent fresh seafood. Sardinia has its own local version of caviar, which is grey salted mullet eggs served with celery and other wonderful fish dishes for you to try such as dog fish sea urchins and octopus. Wine is often beautifully fruity and is an ideal way to wash down the delectable food served in restaurants.
