Many major tour operators offer fantastic deals on holidays to Side throughout the year. Flights to Side are operated to Antalya Airport, which is situated 55km away from resort. Many UK airports have flights departing to Antalya in the summer months however there are no direct charter flights available in the winter as Turkey quietens down dramatically at this time. Getting around Antalya is best achieved via dolmus, which is simply a small mini bus that operates around the whole of Turkey at very low rates. Taxis are available also, and again are relatively cheap.
A visit to Side would not be complete without taking time out to discover some of the enchanting sites in the region. Greek ruins scatter the area, the most renowned being the famous Roman Theatre, ‘The Colosseum’. Sightseers are in awe at this truly remarkable building. Once an area used for executing prisoners and gladiator fighting for the Roman Empire, the Colosseum has retained much of its original features, and still stands to this day. Another popular outing for holidaymakers is taking a trip to the bustling, colourful streets of the town, where there are bargains galore. Shops sell all kinds of Turkish delights, handcrafted embroidery, lace table cloths and serviettes, and a wonderful selection of gold and silver jewellery. However if you just want to get away from it all, lie on a sun kissed beach and simply relax under the beautiful rays, then Side can offer you two fabulous beaches to do just that. With many bars and restaurants within walking distance of the beaches, you will not have to worry about over-doing it on a bargain Side holiday.
The tastes of Turkey are a delicious blend of Turkish, Arabic, Persian and Greek influences, a bit like those in the Mediterranean. Many locals in Side eat a lot of fish, vegetables, meat and fruit and follow a very healthy diet. But Turkey is also home to the legendary donar kebab. The donar kebab is popular with British tourists whilst on their holidays in Side and even when they get back home, especially after one too many drinks! Turkish coffee is a popular refreshment in Side with most cafes and restaurants offering it to guests after a meal. The coffee here is very strong and has a distinct taste that only few palates can adapt to, it is rumoured that back in the olden days Turkish men judged a potential bride as to how well she made a cup of coffee, proving just how much of a popular tradition it is.
