Holidays in Tenerife have been extremely popular for many years now and welcome visitors all year round. There is a diverse range of resorts on the island, each offering unique and spectacular surroundings. In the north the town of Puerto de la Cruz sits, one of the oldest Canary Islands resorts, it lies at the foot of a fertile valley and is perfect for a nice leisurely stroll with its winding streets filled with culture and tradition. However the South of Tenerife offers a beautiful warm climate and a livelier holiday destination due to such resorts as Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands and by far the most popular. Known as ‘the island of eternal spring’ Tenerife’s warm weather and the fantastic activities on offer, attract holidaymakers any time of the year.
Tenerife holidays are increasingly more popular in the winter months than in the summer, due to British holidaymakers enjoying winter holidays there to guarantee some sunshine and escape the winter blues. In Tenerife there are two airports, one in the south, Reina Sofia, and a much smaller one in the north which is very small and rarely used. Reina Sofia is the 7th busiest airport in Spain and brings in millions of passengers throughout the year. Flights to Tenerife are operated from numerous airports in the UK, Ireland and Scotland, with such carriers as Ryanair from Dublin and Fly Globespan from Aberdeen, Durham Tees Valley, Edinburgh and Liverpool, cheap holidays in Tenerife need not be a thing of the past. Getting to resort from the airport couldn’t be simpler with three bus routes taking passengers to their required destinations and plenty of cheap private taxis on offer just outside the terminal. During your stay in Tenerife you tend to find most hotels and apartments are within walking distance of the beach and bars and restaurants however if not taxis can be easily found and are very reasonable.
Holidays in Tenerife resort Playa de las Americas are by far the most popular on the island. Built in 1960, it neighbours the beautiful resorts of Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. Perfect for clubbing holidays, the resort is virtually free of anything traditional and Spanish and is simply a purpose built tourist resort; European holidaymakers come here to enjoy the sunshine and endless partying. British pubs, pizza parlours and hip nightclubs line the street on the famous Veronica Strip, a real home from home and ideal for those who aren’t to keen on Spanish food and want to spend their nights on the tiles and their days resting their hangover on the beach. Heading more towards the north of the island, Puerto de la Cruz is home to the famous Loro Parque, the second most popular attraction after Mount Teid. Loro Parque is home to the worlds most important parrot collection with a staggering 300 species. Fantastic shows are performed here and a host of zoo animals can be observed such as Tigers and Gorillas. A perfect day out for the whole family.
Tenerife holidays' food and drink is like the majority of Spanish destinations, basing a lot of their menus on International cuisine, however visitors to Tenerife are missing out on tasting some of the Islands delicious cuisine. Branching out of the touristy resorts and heading to more quieter little villages, holidaymakers can get a true feel of Spanish tradition and culture, take the famous dish ‘papas arrugadas,’ made from scratch and while rather simple, still bursting with flavour. Papas Arrugadas is simply small potatoes cooked in salt water and then served with ‘mojo,’ a famous Canarian sauce.
