Exeter Airport was originally opened in May 1937, with the first flight leaving there on Coronation day of that same year. From that day forward a steady growth in air services developed to the Channel Islands, and today passengers have the choice of over 40 worldwide destinations to travel to. The majority of flights from Exeter Airport are operated by low cost airline Flybe, which bases its headquarters in Exeter. Holiday charter airlines also operate from the airport, with First Choice Airways having a permanent base here since 2007. At this present time the airport is only home to 11 aircraft parking stands, therefore only allowing so many aircrafts in to the airport at once. However the airport has proposed an expansion to create a further seven additional parking stands and making many more Exeter flights available.
