Leeds Bradford International Airport is located between the two cities of Leeds and Bradford in West Yorkshire, the airport began in 1931 as Yeadon Aerodrome with club flying and training flights. In 1936 the Royal Auxiliary Air Force moved in, seasonal holiday services came into operation. All civil flights stopped in 1939 due to the outbreak of the Second World War, the neighbouring Avro Factory created more than 4,500 military aircrafts, most of which were first flown from the Yeadon Aerodrome. Once the War was over civil flights began again in 1947 and once the Leeds Bradford Committee took charge of the airport in 1959 the airport had extensive improvements made to it over the next year and began scheduled flights to London and Dublin. When the 70’s came round, cheap package holidays became very popular with British holiday makers and the first charter flight to Iberian Peninsula left Leeds Bradford Airport in 1976. In order to get the airport up to regional airport standards, more improvements were made during the 80’s, in 1986, Concorde came Leeds Bradford for the first time and about 60,000 people came to see her land. The airport is constantly improving itself in size and customer facilities so in 2005 the results were that over 2.6 million passengers traveled through the airport.
