History suggests that the site where Prestwick is currently based became a home to aircrafts in the early 1900’s, some saying 1934; however it could have been as early as 1913. A handful of small aeroplanes were using meadows located right next to the Prestwick Airport plot as a landing strip. Soon after this, a gentleman named David McIntyre acquired 348 acres of this Ayrshire Countryside and set up a business called ‘The Scottish Aviation Ltd’, an aircraft manufacturing company. In only a year, offices were quickly built along with a small but adequate control tower.
