TUI Travel PLC was created in March 2007 following a merger of the tourism division of TUI AG, which officially owns just over half of the company and First Choice Holidays PLC. The company began officially trading as TUI Travel PLC in September of the same year. Although much of TUI was originally based in Germany, the TUI Travel PLC headquarters are situated in London. The TUI brand and the familiar ‘smile’ logo is the parent company for a number of large companies and well known names, including of course Thomson Holidays and First Choice Holidays. The company consists of over 80 tour operators and features more than 150 aircraft. TUI also has its own cruise ships and retail stores. TUI is proud to be the biggest retailer in hotels and resorts across Europe supplying over 160,000 beds to their devoted customers.
